What Gets Lost When You Raise the Minimum Wage?

Many people use minimum wage jobs as the first step on a career ladder to build skills, become educated, and move on to a better, higher paying job.

Maybe one day,  they’ll even start their own businesses and create jobs for even more people.

A minimum wage hike from 7-25 to 10-10 an hour however, could wipe out that first step altogether leaving people with fewer ways to begin their career climb.

Not only that, but if the government orders workers to be paid more, the company might have to cut jobs.

And since more than half of minimum wage workers are younger than 24, a lot more younger people would have trouble getting off the ground.

Shouldn’t everyone have a better chance for a first step on the career ladder?
